Umbrella: Shelter Wear (multi-purpose)
When we think of shelter, we think to feel safety and support, and cosy.
Umbrella is used by everyone and in every season to shelter and project themselves.
Photographers’ use umbrellas (or reflectors) in production sets to create soft and better
lighting, and in production sites to keep their equipments safe; architects use it to
shelter themselves, and fashion designers also use it as a styling prop to their practises.
Umbrella is a common object everyone own and discards when it is broken.
What people disregard, are the values of an umbrella when it is broken and how
it can be can be reused for its eco-friendly material, nylon. This series is targeted
towards high fashion industry who spend an endless amount of energy on making
similar fabric for fashionable wear and expect to have the labour workers behind it
to be completed in countries like China, Vietnam, Bangladesh, and India, causing a
bad pressure on sustainable living and slow-fashion movement.
Umbrellas lose out their value for being composted in the landfill and for not providing the proper care after being thrown out.
